Julie Mahieu - Daughter of Larry and Jan Mahieu, granddaughter of Frank and Emma Mahieu and Marge Brooks.
Matthew Warnez - Son of Thomas and Annie Warnez.

Brother Members,

I’m proud to announce that the B.A.A. has three outstanding winners of its scholarship for this year. They were chosen by your executive board at a special meeting.

Our first recipient is Katherine DeWolf. She is the daughter of Gordon and Paulette DeWolf and a graduate of Anchor Bay High School. While there she compiled a 3.61 G.P.A. with a 26 A.C.T. score. Katherine was in the National Honor Society, played in the Marching Band, was in Key Club, East Shore Honors Band, S.A.D.D., Student Council, and Symphonic Band during her high school years. She is now attending Western Michigan University majoring in Business Management.

The second recipient is Julie Mahieu. She is the daughter of Larry and Jan Mahieu, granddaughter of Frank and Emma Mahieu and Marge Brooks. Julie is a graduate of Fraser High School where she attained a 3.94 G.P.A. with an A.C.T. score of 26. While in high school Julie was in the National Honor Society, participated in varsity gymnastics, varsity track, powder puff football, tutored in an elementary school, volunteered at high school sporting events, and for Fraser parks and recreation. She was the regional gymnastics all around and floor exercise champion was MAC all academic team for track and gymnastics and received an MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award and a President’s Education Award for 2010. Julie is now enrolled at Lawrence Technological University studying toward a Bachelor degree in interior architecture.

The third recipient is Matthew Warnez. He is the son of Thomas and Annie Warnez and graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School with a 3.95 G.P.A. and a 33 A.C.T. score. While at Grosse Pointe North Matthew took a number of advanced placement classes which can receive college credit. During high school he participated in varsity tennis, played in concert symphonic and pep bands, was in National Honor Society, participated in the U.S. Chess Federation, and achieved the Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America. Matthew also volunteered at the St. Joan of Arc soup kitchen. He is now enrolled at the University of Michigan in the College of Engineering.

As you can see these young people are outstanding students and they have achieved a great deal in their high school careers. I’m sure their parents are quite proud of them and our organization is pleased to award them our scholarships for this year. Congratulations and continued success as you pursue your educational goals.

Rules For Application:
The applicant or father must be a member of the B.A.A. for at least a minimum of twenty-four (24) months by the deadline of August 1st at which time the six requests listed below must be in the possession of the Scholarship Chairman.
An applicant can apply for the scholarship in any of the first three years of accredited advanced schooling.
An applicant may apply once each year during the first three years of his or her higher schooling but may only receive one scholarship during those years.
The applicant, when reapplying, is responsible to resubmit copies of the six requests listed below.
Up to three scholarships at $500.00 apiece may be awarded each year.


The Below Six Information Requests Must Be Received By The Scholarship Chairman No Later Than Aug 1st:
1. Copy of Acceptance Letter from the University, College or Vocational School listed above.
2. Four years of High School academic records, with class standing, mailed directly from the school to:

3. Results of ACT, SAT, or both.
4. A list of extracurricular activities engaged in during your high school years.
5. A list of rewards received during your high school years.
