B.A.A. Golf Outing June 12, 2011
On what started out to be a cold and cloudy Sunday, but later became sunny and pleasant, 43 golfers braved the elements
at Bello Woods golf course. As the golfers arrived, they were checked-in and sent on their way by Patti
VanDenBergh and Bob Putrycus, supervised by Mel Ferdinande.
About 2 hours after they started Chuck Horan and his son Jeff fired up the grille to prepare hot dogs for the golfers
as they made the turn after nine holes. With the new law pertaining to alcoholic beverages, we were now able to have
liquid refreshments before noon.
At approximately 1:00PM the first of the 18-holers were finished. At that time Al VanDenBergh Jr. began to calculate
the winners using the Peoria handicap system.
The winners were: 1st place – Brian Onderik shooting 72, 2nd place – Mark Deckers with a 73, 3rd Place – Don Debold
and Joe Wolf both with 74. Joe Wolf had an actual score of 79.
The hole contest winners were: Ladies Longest drive - Lucy Deckers and Patty Onderik.
Ladies Closest-to-the-Pin - Patty Onderik; Men’s Longest Drive – Max Onderik and Jim DeSandre,
Men’s Closest-to- the-Pin - Roland Deprez. Brian Onderik donated his winnings to the Gazette.
Hopefully we can have a better turn out in September, along with better weather. All in all it was a good day for
I was especially proud of my grandson Maxwell Onderik, who at the young age of 18 years old is a very good golfer.
