General Meeting May 18, 2010

The monthly meeting of the B.A.A was held on May 18th at the Barrister Gardens. The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by President Arsene VanVooren. A roll call of Officers and Board Members showed all present. A moment of silence was observed for past-President and lifetime member George DeClerk. George had been a member since March 1946. He served as President from 1957 – 1958.

Treasurer, Roland Deprez read the April 2010 Financial report. Bob Grant reported membership at 308. There have been 6 members deleted so far.

Entertainment Chairman Arsene VanVooren reported on a few upcoming events: June 13th golf outing at Bello Woods-contact Arsene for starting times; July 11th picnic at Blossom Heath from noon to 6:00pm. The Century Club has a few tickets left to the Tiger game on September 10th. If you are interested, contact Rick Tanghe.

Vice-President Dale Verhaeghe introduced our guests for the evening; Frank Catania who is Rick Dauw’s cousin and Ron Hatala who is a guest of Joe Dubay.

If anyone missed the band concert in April, Larry Mahieu or Tony Huyghe has CD’s for sale. Norm Kay reported that Casey Wolk is under the weather and that Frank Mahieu and Marcel Verdoodt, who had been on the sick list, were in attendance. Norm also reported on the death of George DeClerk.

Our master chef Mel Ferdinande reported that lunchmeat and veggies would be served. Retirees President Frank Baecke reported that they are preparing for their annual June dinner. Our auditor John Roelandt reported that the books have been audited through March and are in good shape. Still sporting his Florida tan, scholarship chairman Al VanDenBergh, Jr. announced that he has the applications available for those who are eligible. Scott Schumacher reported that they are 20 prizes to be raffled to the 96 members in attendance.

So far there are 9 players signed up for the softball team. Al VanDenBergh, Jr. spoke of the July 18th Gazette party honoring Father Karel Denys at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

The drawing winners were: John Roelandt, Chuck LeFevre, Henry Verlinden Cy DeWitte, Dan DeHem, Dick Loosvelt, Jeff Horan, Ray Huyghe, Larry Allemon, Marcel Verdoodt, Mike Grey, Chris Silage, Bernie Allemon, Kenny Allemon, Hank Denolf, Rick Dauw and Roland Deprez.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm.
