Joint Meeting April 21, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by President Arsene VanVooren at the Barrister House.
A moment of silence was observed for longtime member Leo Michaels. Leo had been a member since 1977. He was very
active in the Club activities. Leo was a sponsor to many members of the organization; as soon as he found out you
were Belgian or related to a Belgian, he usually convinced you to join the club. Leo also served many years on the
Board on various committees. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our condolences to his wife Irene,
children Lynn Yagley, Tom Mark, Brian, and Allen, and all of his grandchildren.
A roll call of officers showed all present except Etienne Elskens, Dale Verhaeghe, and John Roelandt. A motion was
made and supported to dispense with the regular order of business.
President VanVooren recapped the upcoming activities. Norm Kay announced that Vice-President Dale Verhaeghe had
surgery on his hand and that George Priem is in hospice. Norm also mentioned that Ray VanHoet, Henry Verlinden,
Hank Boullard, and Joe Aluia, who had been on the sick list, were in attendance.
Father Jim Commyn said Grace before dinner. The kitchen crew of Mel and Chuck along with the help of Gary, Mike, and
Dick Huyghe served roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, and rolls. The potato salad and regular salads along with
the cakes were prepared by Toni Lams and were delicious as always. Gene Mulier provided the roast beef and gravy.
Larry Mahieu thanked everyone who attended the concert for their support and is looking forward to next year.
Al VanDenBergh Jr. reminded everyone about the rules and regulations pertaining to the scholarships. Al and his
wife, Pat just returned from Florida and both looked well-rested and tan. Welcome back to the unpredictable weather!
AI Robotka provided the dance music for the evening which everyone seemed to enjoy!
There were quite a few members who were going on a Casino trip the next morning, my wife and I included, so we
left early as the next morning came mighty quick!
The drawing winners were: Morrie Haezebrouck, Bob Grant, Betty Huyghe, Bob Joye, Liz Huyghe, Evelyn Mareel, Ray
VanHoet, Clementine Geromette, Diane Baier, Ed VanRosse, Dee Dee Alleman, Marilyn Monahan, Beverly Czupinski,
Dorothy Rancillio, Carol Ferdinande, Bill DeSchutter, and Ted Monahan.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.
