General Meeting November 18, 2008

The monthly meeting of the B.A.A. was called to order at 7:30pm by President Arsene Van Vooren at the Barrister Gardens. A moment of silence was observed for lifetime member Bill DeBruyne.

A roll call of officers showed all present except Leo Michaels, Gary Huyghe, Scott Schumacher, Frank Mahieu, Larry Mahieu, and Al DeBacker.

The minutes of the November Board meeting were read. Treasurer, Roland Deprez, read the October 2008 Financial report and brought the members up-to-date on our investments.

Financial Secretary Bob Grant reported membership at 304. Bob was collecting dues and guest fees for the Installation party which will take place in January 2009.

Entertainment Chairman Norm Kay recounted the remaining events for the year. Norm also reported that the Band’s Christmas concert is at St. Gertrude’s on December 10th and their Spring Concert is scheduled for April 4th at the Greek Cultural Center. See Larry or Oscar for tickets. Norm still had the floor to relate that Leo Michaels was at home after a hospital stay, Gary Huyghe was in the hospital for surgery, Ernie DeBaene was back in the hospital and George Priem has prostate cancer. We wish them all a speedy recovery.

Bob Grant was filling in on recreation as both Leo and Gary are on the sick list. The leaders through November with one month to go are:

Hop-Along Mel Ferdinande reported that lunchmeat and cheese would be served.

Vice-President Dale Verhaeghe introduced guests for the evening were: Tom, Ray, Dan and Herb VanSteenkiste, Floyd Willis, Mike Goloweyco, Ed VanRossen and Bruce Baron.

Obituary Chairman John Roelandt announced that the flags and flowers were at the funeral of William DeBruyne, a lifetime member and that a memorial was sent out in memory of Angie DeClerk, wife of Past-President George DeClerk.

Retirees President Frank Baecke announced the results of their election were: President-Frank Baecke; 1st Vice-President-Ted Westfall; 2nd Vice-President-Gabe DeKimpe; Recording Secretary-Etienne Elskens; Financial Secretary-Bob Janes; Board Members: Leo Michaels, Rene Nuyts, and Dick Cleyman.

Our Webmaster Chuck Myny reported that if you sign up for the email delivery of the bulletin, you will receive 3 extra tickets in the December drawing provided you buy $5 worth of tickets. Chuck also reported that there were 25 prized for the drawing.

Marshall Bill Meldrum reported there were 105 in attendance.

Al VanDenBergh, Jr. was kind enough to make a motion, which was supported, to permit the Board Members and their guests to enjoy a dinner compliments of the Club for all of their hard work. Thank You Al and members!

The meeting was then turned over to Joe Deckers assisted by Walt Baier to conduct the nominations for Officers and Board members. Walt gave a brief explanation of the procedure and the results were as follows:
