General Meeting September 16, 2008

The monthly meeting of the B.A.A. was held at the Barrister Gardens. It was called to order at 7:30pm by President Arsene VanVooren. Gary Huyghe was the only Board member absent as he and his wife Liz, were vacationing in Las Vegas. The minutes of the previous meeting were read.

A moment of silence was observed for deceased member Allen Verbrugge. He was living in Florida with his wife, Dortha. Allen was a member of the Club since 1951 and he passed away on July 29th. The Club sent a monetary donation to the charity requested by the family.

Treasurer, Roland Deprez read the August 2008 financial report. Financial Secretary, Bob Grant reported that our membership is at 302. Bob also explained that he sent a letter to membership applicant Robert DeVinck who lives in Belleville, Washington explaining to him how to get sworn into the Club without being present at a meeting.

Entertainment Chairman Norm Kay reported that the golf outing scheduled for September 14th was cancelled do to the monsoon-like conditions. The softball game is set for September 21st at Kennedy Park at 2:00pm. The Memorial Mass is October 5th at St. Gertrude’s at 11:00am. Lunch will follow in their gymnasium right after Mass. You are requested to attend Mass first and then the luncheon. Norm then recapped the remaining activities for the year.

Leo also announced that Bob Grant would be taking the scores for this month as Gary Huyghe was away. He thanked Bob for helping out.

Mel Ferdinande announced that lunchmeat and veggies would be served at the meeting and that everything was set for the softball game. Mel also thanked Dick and Mike Huyghe for taking over in Gary’s absence.

Band Chairman Larry Mahieu announced that the Band will play at the softball game. Their Christmas Concert is December 10th at St. Gertrude’s.

Vice-President Dale Verhaeghe reported that he has received 4 scholarship applications. They will be reviewed at the October Board meeting by the scholarship committee.

It was reported that Frank Mahieu, Leo Michaels, Jim Baetens, and Julius Lauwers are still on the sick list.

Publicity Chairman Etienne Elskens will collect the articles for the bulletin at the October Board meeting.

Our Webmaster, Chuck Myny asked any member who wants the bulletin e-mailed to them to contact him and he will see that they get it.

Scott Schumacher announced that there were 20 prizes to give away to the 91 who were in attendance.

President VanVooren then introduced newly-elected President-to-be of the Century Club, Pat DeLaere. Congratulations to Pat and all the newly-elected officers of the Century Club!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm.
