General Meeting August 19, 2008

Prior to the start of the meeting, President Arsene VanVooren called the Board members together to approve the application for membership from Kenneth Abbot, son-in-law of member John Bopp.

The meeting was then called to order by President VanVooren at 7:30pm at the Barrister Gardens. A roll call of officers showed all present except Leo Michaels and Larry Mahieu.

Treasurer Roland Deprez read the July 2008 Financial report. Financial Secretary Bob Grant reported membership at 302.

Entertainment Chairman Norm Kay reported that the picnic went well and thanked all who helped out. Norm stated that there were 42 at the Hazel Park outing but no one claimed to be a big winner. He thanked Arsene as well as Frank Mahieu for their help in running it. There are 72 golfers signed up for the September outing starting at 8:30am. The 9-holers start at 9:30am on the gold course. Norm then reviewed the remainder of the activities through the end of the year.

President VanVooren read a newsletter from the club from Canada announcing their dinner dance on November 2nd at Place Concorde starting at 2:30pm. The newsletter was made available to anyone that was interested.

Gary Huyghe, filling in for Leo Michaels recapped the leaders through July.

Mel Ferdinande, our chef extraordinaire announced that lunchmeat and veggies would be served.

Oscar Vercruysse, filling in for Larry Mahieu announced that the band will play at the September 21st softball game.

Dale Verhaeghe introduced membership applicant Kenneth Abbot, who was then sworn in by President VanVooren. Dale also noted that all scholarship applications must be in by the end of August.

Frank Mahieu reported that Bob Janes who had been on the sick list was in attendance and that Jim Baetens was not feeling well.

Retiree President Frank Baecke said they are averaging about 70 per meeting and are looking for new members.

It was mentioned that if anyone gets the bulletin on their e-mail to make sure there is room in the mail box.

It was announced that there were 101 in attendance. A question was brought up about the proposed bowling league and President Van Vooren stated that the club response was small but he will contact a bowling alley to see what the minimum is for a league. It was also brought up as to why there are so many outsiders at club functions and nothing is done to enforce the rule of no outsiders at club-sponsored activities. President Van Vooren will look into the problem.
